Olá and welcome to another installment of inspiring travel Instagrams.
Our digital trip begins in Brazil this week, host to the Games of the XXXI Olympiad. People can’t stop talking about the Russian doping scandal, Olympic diets, Gisele on the catwalk, and Michael Phelps’ intense game face. For now Rio is on the tip of everyone’s tongues, but when the curtain comes down on the closing ceremony, the city will remain as vibrant as ever. Just look at how magnificent Christ the Redeemer looks at sunset.
A variety of creatures got in on the Instagram action this week. Man’s best friend went for a walk through the ice caves of Apostle Islands National Lakeshore in Wisconsin. Blacktip reef sharks took in a dip in water only centimetres deep in Aldabra Atoll. And in Everglades National Park, famous for its alligators, two creatures of a decidedly less toothy type snacked on seagrass.
Humans weren’t short on adventures of their own. A brave soul took a skateboard to Norway‘s perilous, undulating Atlantic Ocean Road. Onder Turkmen rowed through Capri‘s picturesque Blue Grotto. Daniel Kordan trekked to Meteora, Greece, where six ancient monasteries are perched atop towering natural sandstone rock pillars.
Man and beast came together in Cuba. Oliver Vegas explored Viñales on horseback to meet the locals and learn the secrets of their infamous local cigars. Follow in his footsteps with our Gentleman’s Guide To Cuba.
