This Real-Life Batman Suit With 23 Functioning Gadgets Set A World Record

Holy gadgets, Batman! A cosplay fanatic from Galway, Ireland, has just achieved two childhood dreams in one: set a Guinness World Record and be a superhero.

The man in question is Julian Checkley, and his incredible creation is a Batman suit so complex it has earned him the world record for the ‘Most Functional Gadgets On A Cosplay Suit’. Checkley’s take on the caped crusader’s famous costume sports 23 fully operational gadgets, ranging from smoke bombs, to a grapnel gun, to a bat sign projector. His record will appear in Guinness World Records 2017: Gamer’s Edition.

The full list of gadgets is as follows:

In a video describing the project, Checkley says he made his first cosplay costume at age 7. He went on to become a model maker and art director in the film industry, then entered the world of creature effects. After years of honing his craft, Checkley’s professional expertise and personal passions have finally collided in the most epic way possible.

“The suit, which is based on that from the Batman: Arkham Origins videogame, was 3D printed and then moulded and cast in a flexible urethane rubber,” says Guinness. “The parts were then trimmed, detailed and painted and then mounted on an specially designed undersuit. It was then applied to Julian Chekley’s bodycast, suitably weathered using dirty earthy colors and was then ready to fight crime on the streets of Gotham City.”

Checkley is justifiably proud of his masterpiece. Speaking of the Batman suit, he says: “There were many long hours trying devising the gadgets and finding ways to store them on the suit…. I am immensely proud of my Guinness World Records title and to be part of the Gamer’s Edition is just the next level.”
