Hold onto your pants gentlemen. A new Mercedes-AMG car has been spotted testing in the wilds of the Nurburgring in non-camouflaged guise.
Officially dubbed the 2018 Mercedes-AMG C63 R Coupe, the vehicle will take the C-Class platform and transform it into a more formidable mover than the Mercedes-AMG C63 S Coupe. What you see before you is a heavily reworked body featuring an aggressive bumper with an integrated front splitter for improved aero, pumped guards and a fixed carbon rear wing up back on a bare carbon boot lid.
No details have been officially released about the car yet but speculations are pointing to the Silver Arrows’ proven 4.0-litre biturbo V8 which is also found in the German stable’s latest hero car, the Mercedes-AMG GT R. Given that the C-Class racer is designed to be a bit more pedestrian than the AMG GT R, the engine will likely be wound down from the GT R’s 577hp to the 550hp mark, similar to that of the Mercedes-AMG GT C which was unveiled at the 2016 Paris Auto Show.
Those looking for an even extremer version of the C63 will have to hold their breath for a while longer as this has been denied as the fabled C63 Coupe Black Series. It is however a sign of things to come and we’re sure many out there won’t complain too much – especially if it proves a serious threat to BMW’s M4 GTS.
