New Book ‘NSFW’ Brings Rankin’s Nude Photography To Your Coffee Table

Full screen

This isn’t Rankin’s first retrospective book, but it might be his most salacious. The appropriately named #NSFW is an erotic greatest hits of the iconic photographer’s nude work.

Rankin – aka John Rankin Waddell – has spent his 25-year career immortalising the biggest names in entertainment in photograph form. He’s worked with the likes of Kate Moss, Madonna, David Bowie, U2, Tom Hardy, Emma Watson, The Rolling Stones, and even Queen Elizabeth II. He founded Dazed & Confused magazine in 1992, followed by several more print publications. He’s created landmark editorial and advertising campaigns for Nike, Swatch, Harpers Bazaar, Esquire, GQ, and Wonderland. He’s dabbled in film production, museum exhibitions, and interactive art spectacles.

In other words, there’s very little Rankin hasn’t done, but despite his vast experience, he returns time and time again to a beloved subject: the female form.

#NSFW presents a collection of Rankin’s favourite nude shots from the last quarter century. Produced on a super-sized scale, the book showcases his brazen yet intimate style. The images are unapologetic, provocative, and beautiful, with a dash of the photographer’s signature humour and cheek. These nudes don’t exist just to titillate; they’re designed to challenge preconceptions, to celebrate their subjects, and to empower women. That’s nudity on a whole nother level.

#NSFW is available now from teNeues in hardcover and a collector’s edition that’s limited to 50 copies and includes a signed and numbered photoprint. Take a peek at some of the striking imagery featured in #NSFW above.
