The worth of the record-breaking deal? An eye-watering US$1 billion.
The contract will essentially set up Ronaldo for life with Nike whilst extending the ambassador relationship well into the future. The 31-year-old from Portugal has been with Nike since 2003 and over that time has built himself a reputation as one of the world’s most marketable sports stars.
Ronaldo isn’t exactly struggling either. This year he took out the top spot as the highest earning athlete with an US$88 million income.
In a statement Nike said of the new deal, “the successful partnership between Nike and Ronaldo will continue well into the future with a new, long-term contract.”
Ronaldo reiterated these terms, saying that the new contract is “for life”.
Only one other athlete has scored a bigger deal with Nike to date and that’s NBA star LeBron James – he is reportedly worth over $1 billion to the brand.
