H&M have been on top of their advertising game this year (thanks in large part to the surprisingly dynamic duo of David Beckham and Kevin Hart), and they’re ending 2016 on a festive note with the help of indie darling director Wes Anderson.
The four-minute clip stars Anderson-fave Adrien Brody as a conductor whose train is delayed by bad weather. So his passengers don’t miss Christmas, Brody and his colleagues plan a merry surprise for one and all. The train’s most petite passenger is particularly delighted by the holiday miracle.
Anderson fans will notice many of the director’s hallmark quirks in the short, titled Come Together. Like The Darjeeling Limited, it takes place on a sleeper train. There’s a cute kid and a gathering of supplies. There’s the vibrant colour palette and the kitschy, retro décor. The soundtrack includes the John Lennon classic “Happy Xmas (War is Over)” and the costumes, of course, come courtesy of H&M.
Pernilla Wohlfahrt, H&M’s head of design and creative director, said: “The winter train ride, under Wes Anderson’s direction, is the perfect setting for H&M’s holiday collection full of relaxed, wearable elegance. It’s about mixing the informal with a sense of occasion, capturing the holiday mood for both dressing up and getting cosy with loved ones.”
“This story may resonate more than ever at a time in the world where we could all do with giving a stranger a hug,” Brody added.
The spot certainly succeeds in stirring those warm-fuzzy feelings and preparing us for the season ahead. Check it out above.
