Gone are the days of scantily clad models doing their thing to feign sex appeal for twelve months of the year. Pirelli’s iconic annual calendar for 2017 is following hot on the heels of last year’s breakthrough look which saw talented women like writer Fran Lebowitz, Yoko Ono, and comedian Amy Schumer grace its black and white pages.
For its 40th edition in 2017, photographer Peter Lindbergh has returned to helm the shoot for the third time in his career alongside some of the world’s most talented women in their most natural look.
On the hit list includes Uma Thurman, Nicole Kidmam, Alicia Vikander, Kate Winslet, Julianne Moore, Rooney Mara, Jessica Chastain, Penelope Cruz, Helen Mirren and Zhang Ziyi just to name a few. If you haven’t noticed, the new theme throws out the age and occupation rulebook to make up this year’s diverse list which caters to a wider range of professions.
The first four official images were released today and show off Uma Thurman, Nicole Kidman, Julianna Moore and Robin Wright posing in black and white clothing that drops the overtly sexual tone for stripped down elegance.
In a press release, Lindbergh revealed that he chose the title “Emotional” for the project in order “to create a calendar not around perfect bodies, but on sensitivity and emotion, stripping down to the very soul of the sitters, who thus become more nude than naked.”
The shoot took place in five locations including New York, Berlin, London, Los Angeles and Le Touquet in France.
