Guns. Explosions. Horses. Helicopters. Cool waterfall scenery. Ominous voiceovers. Woody Harrelson shaving his head. The first trailer for War for the Planet of the Apes is here and it has everything cinema-goers could want in an all-out man vs. primate melee.
When Dawn of the Planet of the Apes ended, war between the two factions was imminent. At the start of War for the Planet of the Apes, the battle has been raging for two years and things are looking grim. The film’s official synopsis reads:
“In War for the Planet of the Apes, the third chapter of the critically acclaimed blockbuster franchise, Caesar and his apes are forced into a deadly conflict with an army of humans led by a ruthless Colonel. After the apes suffer unimaginable losses, Caesar wrestles with his darker instincts and begins his own mythic quest to avenge his kind. As the journey finally brings them face to face, Caesar and the Colonel are pitted against each other in an epic battle that will determine the fate of both their species and the future of the planet.”
The third film in the rebooted series promises to be the biggest, bleakest, and bloodiest yet. The trailer teases plenty of action, from jungle shoot-outs to scuffles in the snow, and has the requisite doomsday dialogue that warns of catastrophe to come.
Who will surrender (or go extinct) first? We’ll find out in July 2017.
