It’s Ryan Gosling’s Blade Runner coat that’s been most talked about by film-and-fashion fans, but let’s not neglect the footwear. Those badass and battle-ready boots aren’t one-offs devised by the film’s costume designer, Renée April. They could be yours today, for the curiously accessible sum of US$129.95.
So much for 2049. K’s boots are all 2017, courtesy of 130-year-old tactical footwear manufacturer Bates. The company has supplied shoes to US presidents and produced over 1 million shoes for the US government during WWII. Bates footwear has been worn by Olympic athletes, police officers, motorcycle enthusiasts, ATV and snowmobile riders, construction workers, all branches of the US military, and now by an agent for the futuristic LAPD.
Gosling sports the Bates Shock 6” Side Zip Tactical Boot in Blade Runner 2049. The Shock collection is built around Bates’ four-part Endurance Performance System to fight fatigue and deliver durability without sacrificing comfort. The boots feature a waterproof leather and nylon upper with protective side panels and a mesh tongue for added breathability. A side zipper ensures they’re easy to slip on and off, while a waterproof membrane keeps your tootsies high and dry. A multi-terrain, slip-resistant rubber lug outsole caps off the perfect replicant-retiring look.
We doubt the boots will cause the stir of the custom coat or The Gos’ other iconic jacket, but at least they won’t require a bespoke tailor if you want your own. Cop a pair here if you need to finish your Halloween costume.
