As streetwear marches evermore towards the mainstream, Burberry is the latest luxury brand to dip its toe in the trend. The venerable British fashion house has joined forces with Russian designer, photographer, and filmmaker Gosha Rubchinskiy on a capsule collection set to launch later this week.
The Gosha x Burberry capsule reinterprets Burberry icons through a streetwear lens. Oversized silhouettes feature prominently, particularly in outerwear pieces including a trench in two-tone gabardine, a car coat with a check cotton-twill bib front, and a reversible Harrington jacket.
Burberry’s check pattern is featured throughout the collection, appearing on coats, shirts, and tailored shorts. The check also surfaces on a series of hats designed in partnership with British milliner Stephen Jones.
In September 2017, Burberry enlisted Rubchinskiy to photograph British youth in Burberry designs as part of an exhibition titled ‘Here We Are’ at London’s Old Sessions House. The exhibit was co-curated by Burberry president and chief creative officer Christopher Bailey and photographer Alasdair McLellan.
“Working with Christopher has been a great adventure. Burberry has always symbolized the epitome of classic British style to me,” Rubchinskiy said in a statement. “Their timeless pieces are the perfect balance to our modern streetwear creating a great mix. Our extended collaboration, from my SS18 collection to Burberry’s ‘Here We Are’ Zine and exhibition, really embodies what I feel is British culture today, a mix of iconic pieces and youth.”
Gosha x Burberry will be available on January 6 online at Burberry.com and doverstreetmarket.com, as well as in selected Burberry stores globally. Find the list here and check out some of the pieces above.
