Mahershala Ali's Shoe Game Proves Why He's The Next Men's Style Icon

With arguably one of the coolest names in the industry, Mahershala Ali is also making a statement with his wardrobe. It was just over a week ago when the House of Cards and True Detective actor showed up to The Hollywood Reporter and Jimmy Choo’s Beverly Hills dinner party in a killer double breasted-turtle neck combo and sockless piano loafers.

The only way to describe the look? Sublime with a dash of suave. Ali isn’t new to making statements in the men’s style space. Most recently he was spotted at the Academy Awards in a clean three piece suit paired with a beanie and collarless shirt. Look even further down the track and you’ll find Ali in a mustard suit, a burgundy tux and a leather Berluti constable’s cap.

Needless to say, he’s one of the more subtly audacious style figures in Hollywood’s current style circuit – and we welcome him with open arms. Let’s break down his look. Ali is rocking a perfectly fitted double breasted navy suit. The jacket is worn over a rolled navy turtleneck to make for one very cool look for colder seasons (Calvin Harris, Jeff Goldblum, Kevin Hart and Michael B. Jordan have also rocked this combo). Look down further though and you’ll notice a touch of summer – missing socks and heavy contrasted ‘piano’ loafers – a very elegant touch to a muted look.

It’s these shoes paired to Ali’s classic suiting look that allows him to stand out from the crowd of suit and turtleneckers.

Look even closer though and you’ll see a fine IWC Da Vinci Chronograph timepiece wrapped around Ali’s wrist (first image) complete with a matching blue dial. Coincidence or master stroke? Why not both?
