Tudor Black Bay P01 Pays Tribute To 1960s Battleships With A Bold Watch Design

Tudor‘s latest Black Bay P01 is nothing like you’ve ever seen in modern watches and that’s exactly the point. Born from a 1960s prototype initially designated for the US Navy, the watch bears a unique bezel locking system and case which sees a shielded crown positioned at the 4 hour marker.

It’s fundamentally a Black Bay model complete with the signature Tudor hands but from there it’s purely a modern diver’s watch which brings 60 years worth of Tudor’s R&D into one piece. At the core of the P01 is a mobile end link at 12 o’clock which acts as a locking and dismantling system to allow the bezel to be rotated or locked in place. Tudor says this feature is to aid maintenance of the watch. As per the original watch, this one is finished in satin-brushed steel.

Beyond that the P01 is rated at 200m water resistance and features hours, minutes, seconds and date functions on a matte black dial finished with luminescent hour markers. Another unique touch is the rubber hybrid strap which features a brown leather over trim with contrast white stitching. Even the mobile satin-brushed steel attachments that connect the strap to the watch case are period correct.
