Alien: Romulus follows a group of young space colonists who, while exploring an abandoned space station, come face to face with the most horrific form of life: the Xenomorph.

It’s time for the seventh instalment in the Aliens franchise. It is set between the events of Alien (1979) and Alien (1986)

You may be expecting a refined mashup of events between both movies to create a brand new cinematic piece. However, it is not connected to the others. Director Fede states that it is a standalone story, but it’s filled with references to every movie. It is truly a love letter to all the other movies.

Fast-rising star Cailee Spaeny, who made her debut on the silver screen in the science fiction film Pacific Rim Uprising alongside John Boyega, will take on daring feats in Alien: Romulus. As the main protagonist of the film, she lives among others who have been accosted by the alien.

Nominated for the 2024 Golden Globe Awards’ Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama and an award recipient of the Venice International Film Festival Volpi Cup for Best Actress, Cailee Spaeny is stepping into yet another career-making role. Rain Carradine, a human scientist and ‘sister’ of Andy held captive by the Alien, is the character she will be portraying in the movie.

After a successful stint in the BBC Two and HBO series Industry, for which he earned a British Independent Film Award nomination, David Jonsson takes on the role of Andy, who was a brother of Rain Carradine.

Following his appearances in the BBC One miniseries Gold Digger and the Netflix series Shadow and Bone, Archie Renaux plays Tyler in Alien: Romulus.

Other cast members include Isabela Merced, Spike Fearn, and Aileen Wu.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Spaeny discussed the role drift away from the usual portrayal of synthetic characters in the Alien films and how her character Rain grew up with an artificial brother.

Rain loves her brother like a real one despite him being synthetic, though challenges arise from growing up with him, making their relationship very dynamic. Cailee also praised David Jonsson for effortlessly delivering his role as her brother.

While very little has been revealed about Alien: Romulus, according to online sources, the story revolves around a group of twenty-something space colonisers and scavengers who encounter a Xenomorph inside a dilapidated space station.

Alien: Romulus Trailer

With spine-chilling screams and trembling shakes, characters scramble away from the gnarly Facehuggers. The scene opens with shots of abandoned, empty corridors, with voices crying out for help in the background. “Help! Someone help me, please!” someone shouts. “No, no, I don’t… I don’t know what it is!” says another, while a third cries, “Get it away from me!”

Cailee Spaeny’s character, Rain, receives a very cool introduction as she steps into frame holding a pulse rifle, paying homage to Sigourney Weaver’s Ripley in Aliens.
