Apple's Latest Patent Reveals A Radical New iPhone Design

It looks like Apple could be working on something radical for the future of the iPhone according to the Cupertino company’s latest patents.

A potential look at the future of iPhone

Based on the publicly accessible design data via the U.S patent and trademark office, Apple will be looking at a flip phone design which can be “opened and closed like a book”. That’s not all though. There’s been rumours that the American tech giant will be teaming up with another Korean electronics giant in LG to help develop the model.

The details suggest that the technology involved in creating a foldable iPhone will require the use of either a two-sided display made of shape memory alloy amorphous metal and may have openings to facilitate bending.

Patent details for latest iPhone design

“An electronic device may have a flexible portion that allows the device to be folded,” reads the patent. “The device may have a flexible display. The flexible display may have a bending region that allows the display to bend along a bend axis when the device is folded.”

Whilst it may be a while before the world sees what Apple comes up with, savvy graphic designers like @aaronamason are already tinkering with the aesthetics to envision a working device.

The question is, would you buy a foldable iPhone?
