Audi RS4 Avant Brings Extra Heat To The Wagon Game

When the family's away it's time to play.

The Frankfurt Motor Show continues to fire off some serious machinery and this time it’s Audi’s 2018 RS4 Avant hot wagon (or estate depending on where you’re from).

The fourth generation RS4 continues to straddle the fine line between lugging around the family on road trips and lighting up all 444 ponies (331kW) and 600Nm that the new 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6 can muster.

The result? 0-100km/h in 4.1 seconds and a top speed of 280km/h with the optional RS Dynamic package fitted – a rather astonishing feat for a car you could live in with your dog.

Other notable appointments includes a lighter kerbweight which drops 80kg from its predecessor to 1,790kg, allowing for a 17 percent reduction in fuel consumption if you’re sensible with the throttle.

As for powertrain duties the RS4 features an eight-speed auto and an optional rear sport differential which sends drive to all four wheels.

And if the 30mm flared wheel arches front and rear aren’t enough to re-ignite your inner-speed racer, there’s also adaptive dampers, carbon ceramic brakes and variable ratio steering on the options list.

Inside the cabin you’ll find standard RS appointments including bolstered sports seats, leather, carbon trim and a flat-bottom steering wheel.

No local pricing has been released yet but expect it to fall in the region of $150,000 Australian pesos.
