M.J. Bale is the Sydney born menswear label faithfully tailored to Australian men. They combine the finest Australian Merino wool with artisan fabric weavers from Italy before reaching the master tailors of Japan to create suits of exacting fit and finish.
When Matt Jensen left his rural home of Yass for a corporate life in London, he didn’t realise he was building the pillars of his very own menswear label known as M.J. Bale.
As the son of a woolgrower and grazier, Jensen had a deep appreciation for fine Merino wool which eventually complemented his time spent trying on suits at the iconic precincts of London’s Savile Row and Jermyn Street. His growing passion for menswear eventually had him volunteering to make kits for his local rugby team.
From there he returned home to Sydney with a newfound passion and founded the menswear label Herringbone with a business partner. Nine years on and Jensen would branch out on his own to conceive the caddish ways of M.J. Bale.
Today Australia’s M.J. Bale boasts over 30 standalone stores and works with the finest sartorial artisans in Italy and Japan to deliver garments of integrity using Australian Merino.
M.J Bale’s signature style of suiting can be described as ‘soft tailoring’, an approach which sees heavy structured padding and weight stripped away from coats and jackets to make them more suitable to the Australian climate and local sartoralists.
