Who Is Lee Pace?
Lee Pace is an American actor who was born in Chickasha, Oklahoma to parents Charlotte and James. Lee also has a sister. Growing up, Lee Pace spent a lot of time in Saudi Arabia, as his father worked in the oil business, before moving to Houston, Texas.
Lee went to school in Texas with fellow American actor, Matt Bomer. Pace showed an interest in acting and performing from a young age, and after a brief stint attending Houston’s Alley Theatre, he eventually attended the Drama Division of New York’s Juilliard School.
Lee appeared in several plays during his time at the Juilliard School, including taking on the lead roles in Romeo and Juliet, Richard II and Julius Caesar. He graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts.

Lee Pace began his acting career on the stage after graduation, although didn’t make his Broadway debut until 2011. One of his earliest feature film appearances, however, came in 2003 with the film Soldier’s Girl. In the film, he played a transsexual, which he admitted was a challenging role, but this was also the reason he wanted to become an actor.
Some of Lee’s other films in the early 2000’s include Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day, Possession and The Good Shepherd.
Some Lee Pace fans may know him best for his appearance in the final instalment of the Twilight franchise, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2. Pace played Garrett, a nomadic vampire, in the movie. Lee’s performance was met with positive reviews.
Lee also appeared in Steve Spielberg’s 2011 film, Lincoln. His latest movie project is the recently released Bodies Bodies Bodies, a black comedy horror film that was released in the US on August 5, 2022. The film also stars Pete Davidson.
The Hobbit
One of Lee Pace’s standout roles was that of Thranduil, the king of the Mirkwood Elves in The Hobbit trilogy. Pace only had a small role in the prologue of the first movie, An Unexpected Journey, but was given far more screentime in The Desolation of Smaug and The Battle of the Five Armies.
Guardians of the Galaxy
Another of Lee Pace’s movie roles that you might have been unaware of was his portrayal of Ronan the Accuser in Guardians of the Galaxy in 2014. He reprised the role the 2019 Marvel movie, Captain Marvel.
Television
Lee Pace has also appeared in a number of television shows, including Pushing Daisies as the lead character Ned but is perhaps best known for his role in Halt and Catch Fire.
Who is Lee Pace dating?
Lee Pace’s co-star in The Hobbit, Ian McKellen outed Pace as gay. At the time, Lee didn’t address the comments, although he did come out in a 2018 interview with W Magazine. He has also previously told The New York Times about being a queer actor.
Lee likes to keep his private life, private, but through various photos posted to social media, it was confirmed that Lee Pace was dating Matthew Foley. Matthew says on his Instagram page, is the VP for Thom Browne (which could explain why Lee wore Thome Browne to the 2021 Met Gala). And, in an interview with GQ in August 2022, Lee Pace revealed he was married to Matthew.
The pair have occasionally posted photos to their Instagram accounts that feature the other, and in a 2021 post, Lee thanked Matthew, along with others he has a “deep feeling of gratitude for,” on his birthday.
