Australian Director Baz Luhrmann Wears $260,000 Necklace To 2023 Oscars

Legendary Australian director Baz Luhrmann – whose smash hit Elvis, starring Austin Butler, has been nominated for Best Picture – hit the red carpet wearing a necklace that we can’t help falling in love with…

The director arrived at the 95th Academy Awards flanked by his wife, 58-year-old costume designer Catherine Martin, who wore chunky gold heels (reflecting her status as the most decorated Aussie in Oscar history) and his 19-year-old daughter Lillian, who wore a glamorous gold sequin number.

Nominated for Best Picture for his smash hit Elvis – a biopic about rock ‘n’ roll legend Elvis Presley which stars heartthrob and man of the minute Austin Butler – the Sydney-born director could be set for big things this evening in Los Angeles.

In honour of the big night ahead, Baz completed his outfit – a black suede jacket with matching pants and shiny black shoes – with a statement accessory that makes even the extravagant 2023 Oscars goodie bag look like a boobie prize.

Worth a whopping $263,000, the necklace, designed by David Webb, was placed on top of a crisp white shirt for emphasis, helping it to catch the eye of the hungry press pack stationed at the Dolby Theatre. The necklace features a carved jade plaque surrounded by black enamel encrusted with brilliant-cut diamonds.

It’s an appropriately outrageous accessory for Luhrmann to rock, with the Aussie director known for his maximalist approach to filmmaking.

Luhrmann’s critically claimed movie stars Olivia de Jong alongside Austin Butler, playing his longtime wife Priscilla Presley, as well as Tom Hanks as Elvis’ infamous manager Tom Parker.

Following Elvis from his challenging childhood to his rise as a global icon all the way to his early death in 1977, Luhrmann’s wife is nominated for a Costume Design gong alongside her husband.
