Think menswear essentials and you’ll likely imagine such pieces as a pair of sneakers, a well-fitting suit, a generous selection of t-shirts, some shorts, and a jacket of varying description. But if there’s one menswear essential that will never go out of fashion, it’s a pair of jeans.
A quality pair of denim jeans should feature in the wardrobe of every single guy on the planet. With so many washes and fits to choose from, and with different designers implementing their own unique touches, a pair of jeans not only helps you look good, but they help to show off your personality too.
Melbourne has an incredibly stylish menswear scene, with an abundance of menswear shops, sneaker stores and tailors where you can pick some impeccable pieces that will prove you really do know how to put together a great looking outfit. When it comes to jeans, Melburnians once again are not exactly left wanting, with a number of stores dedicated to denim just waiting to be discovered.
At least, they would be, had we not done the hard work for you and told you which jeans stores you need to be visiting and where you can find them.
Thank us later.
Acne Studios stands for Scandinavian minimalism at its finest and Melbourne is one city lucky enough to see two stores. The brand was originally conceived as a denim label by Jonny Johansson in 1996 but today it has expanded into myriad fashion-forward collections which are inspired with hints of contemporary art and photography. For those looking pure Scandinavian design in premium quality garments, Acne Studios is the place to hit up.

French clothing brand A.P.C doesn’t have a huge presence in Australia and it’s only dedicated store can be found in Melbourne. If you want to pick up some A.P.C gear elsewhere, you’ll have to thank Incu store founders Brian and Vincent Wu for bringing it to our shores.
A.P.C stocks the most contemporary in men’s fashion including a fine selection of high-quality denim as seen on celebrities around the world. Be prepared to drop a serious wad of cash at this place if you’re a modern purveyor in the streetwear game.

For those who are patriotic about their threads, you really can’t get any more Melbourne than Nobody Denim. Founded by brothers Nick and John Condilis, the brand stocks a cool selection of jeans that are designed and manufactured right here in Australia with pride.
But wait, there’s more. The brothers have listened to what the local market wants when it comes to denim and duly delivered, designing their own unique tools and techniques for the hand customisation of every pair they produce. Optimum fitment appears to be the goal here with men able to choose between skinny or slim straight cuts in both indigo and black wash.

Impeccable Swedish design paired with Italian craftsmanship is always welcome on local shores and one such label has been delivering this for just over a decade now. The beauty of Nudie Jeans is the fact that all their denim products are made with a transparent manufacturing process so you know which region your hard-earned cash is going to.
Their cotton twill is also 100% organic if that’s your kind of thing. More importantly, though Nudies are designed to look sleek, modern and fit you like a glove until the next ice age (ok, maybe not). They are sturdy quality jeans though and the staff (at any of Melbourne’s three stores) will advise you not to wash them for six months whilst they break-in. Grown men shouldn’t wear dirty jeans so here’s our solution to get around that.

While the store doesn’t look like much on the outside, Dejour Jeans is a goldmine for hardcore denim enthusiasts. The tiny space has floor-to-ceiling shelves stocked with every style of denim you could possibly think of. Each one is made using wholesale denim from Bradmill, an Australian textile mill that’s been around since 1927.
But the real trump card this store has is the on-site alteration service, making it your one-stop-shop for finding the perfect pair of jeans. At approximately $60 a pair (including alteration), this store is a real steal for quality denim that doesn’t break the bank.

Whether it be Tom Ford, Burberry or Balmain, if it’s high-end, Harrolds will most likely stock it.
Of course, with high-end comes a high price tag, so make sure your wallet is full before stepping through the doors. But once you do, you’ll only be walking out with some of the most exclusive names in the business.
